President Ilham Aliyev : Armenia`s Nuclear Power Plant is a biggest threat for the region - UPDATE - PHOTOS

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today met Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano in Vienna.

Yukiya Amano said the IAEA attached great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan.

He noted Azerbaijan was a reliable partner in the field of nuclear security.

He said protection of nuclear security was of particularly importance nowadays.

President Ilham Aliyev said nuclear security is not important only for Azerbaijan, it`s important for the region and the world, adding from this point of view activity of the Nuclear Power Plant in
Armenia causes concerns.

The Head of State noted Armenia`s Nuclear Power Plant was a biggest threat for the region.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today met Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Kandeh Yumkella.

Recalling his visit to Azerbaijan, the UNIDO Director General touched upon globalization and spoke about the trends in industry, energy and other fields, as well as problems faced by mankind. Highlighting modern challenges Kandeh Yumkella spoke of unemployment problem in the world.

Stressing Azerbaijan`s economic development, President Ilham Aliyev underlined the decrease in the unemployment rate and creation of new jobs.
They exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNIDO.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today met Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO Preparatory Commission) Lassina Zerbo in Vienna.

Prior to the meeting, the Azerbaijani President viewed the International Data Centre of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission.

Lassina Zerbo thanked Azerbaijan for its support of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, and informed President Ilham Aliyev of the facility`s activities.

During the conversation, they discussed cooperation between the country and the organization.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today met Director-General of the United Nations Office in Vienna Yury Fedotov as part of his official visit to Austria.

They underlined Azerbaijan`s contribution to the United Nations` activity as a member of the organization`s Security Council.

President Ilham Aliyev and Yury Fedotov stressed the importance of holding the UN-related events in Azerbaijan.

They also discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Office in Vienna.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today met president of the Federation of Austrian Industries and leaders of the country`s large companies.

Georg Kapsch, president of the Federation of Austrian Industries, said he was pleased to meet the Azerbaijani leader.

President Ilham Aliyev made a speech at the meeting.

Chiefs of Austria`s leading companies briefed the Azerbaijani President on the activities of their companies.

They praised ongoing development processes in Azerbaijan.

The leaders of the companies pointed out that they were interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan on infrastructure, agriculture, pharmaceutics, energy, tourism, information and communication technologies.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening ceremony of Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Vienna. The Head of State inaugurated the Center.

President Ilham Aliyev delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

The Head of State hailed the opening of the Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Vienna, which is one of the cultural centers of the world, calling it as “a significant milestone” in the history of relations between the two countries.

President Ilham Aliyev said he exchanged views with his Austrian counterpart on how to boost cooperation in various areas, including political, economic, educational, tourism and cultural ones. The Azerbaijani leader stressed the importance of the Declaration signed by the Presidents in terms of further strengthening the bilateral cooperation.

The Head of State praised the business forum held in Vienna, saying business circles from both sides are determined to realize new projects.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that the Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Vienna would make huge contribution to bolstering strong friendship and partnership relations between the two countries and peoples.

Speaking to the ceremony, Fritz Neugebauer, Second President of the Austrian National Council, hailed the friendship ties between Azerbaijan and Austria.

Touching upon the importance of the political and business links, Mr. Neugebauer said cultural ties bring the peoples closer. The Second President of the National Council expressed confidence that President Ilham Aliyev`s official visit, as well as the opening of the Cultural Center would give an impetus to further strengthening of the relationship.

At the opening ceremony, Austrian public figures, representatives of Azerbaijani diaspora and Azerbaijani students talked to President Ilham Aliyev. They praised the opening of the Cultural Center in Vienna, describing it as “an important step”.

The Cultural Center was set up under President Ilham Aliyev`s Order signed on 16 November, 2012, aimed at popularizing Azerbaijan`s cultural legacy in Austria.

The Center will host a variety of events on Azerbaijan`s rich cultural heritage, art and tourism potential. The Center will also organize Azerbaijani language courses. A rich library of Azerbaijani authors and media will be available too. Visitors of the Cultural Center will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with works of Azerbaijani classic writers and poets, including Nizami Ganjavi, Nasimi and Mahammad Fizuli.

The Center will regularly carry out concert programs to create an opportunity to listen to Azerbaijani traditional mugham and classical music, as well as works of great composers like Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Gara Garayev, Fikrat Amirov and Arif Malikov.

Exhibitions and fairs will be also conducted in the Center to feature works of Azerbaijan`s artists, sculptors and masters of applied arts.

The Center`s objectives also focus on further developing cooperation between cultural and tourism agencies of Austria and Azerbaijan.

The Cultural Center in Vienna is one of the important initiatives undertaken by Azerbaijan`s First Lady, president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva to promote the country abroad. The new cultural facility provides an opportunity to better coordinate works in this regard, as well as carry out more rational activities.

The first Cultural Center of Azerbaijan was opened in Paris in September, 2012, by President Ilham Aliyev.

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva signed the guest book of the Cultural Center.

An Austria-Azerbaijan business forum has today been held in Vienna with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his Austrian counterpart Heinz Fischer joining the event.

Opening the forum, president of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber Christoph Leitl congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on what he had done to ensure Azerbaijan`s development.
“Today a lot of huge projects are being realized in Azerbaijan,” said Mr. Leitl, adding the projects cover a number of spheres and Azerbaijan has good potential for cooperation.

Austrian President Heinz Fischer described the business forum as an illustration of economic cooperation between the two countries.

He hailed the expansion of economic ties between Austria and Azerbaijan, saying Azerbaijan became a favorable market for his country.

President Heinz Fischer said the cooperation between the two countries covered a number of fields, including tourism, service and banking sectors. He stressed that the Azerbaijan-Austria business forum held in Baku in 2011 paved the way for the expansion of the bilateral relations, adding the current meeting of businessmen will be a good step towards development of the bilateral ties.

President Ilham Aliyev said Austrian companies were successfully working in Azerbaijan making their contribution to economic development of the country.

The Head of State said the Austrian companies were involved in a variety of areas in Azerbaijan, including restoration of architectural monuments, particularly Maiden Tower, a symbol of the country.

The President said Azerbaijan launched its own satellite, adding the major task was diversification of economy.

President Ilham Aliyev hailed energy cooperation with Austria, saying “Azerbaijan`s energy diplomacy is based on cooperation. It is no coincidence that Azerbaijan made history as the first country which opened the Caspian energy resources to the world.”

“Today Azerbaijan plays a crucial role in the world energy security with its system of oil and gas pipelines.”

President Ilham Aliyev said Austrian companies are “our main partners”, and invited the Austrian businessmen to Azerbaijan.

The presidents also discussed the energy cooperation between the two countries.

They hailed development of relationship between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

During the meeting, presidents Ilham Aliyev and Heinz Fischer exchanged views on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Heinz Fischer of Austria have today given a joint press conference in Vienna.

Speaking of his official visit to Azerbaijan in October 2011, Austrian President Heinz Fischer pointed out that the visit gave a fillip to cooperation between the two countries. He noted that development of friendly relations opened up avenues for Azerbaijan-Austria cooperation in all sectors.

On the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Austrian President said the conflict must be solved in line with international legal norms. The Austrian leader went on to say that economic ties are on the rise. According to him, Austrian companies are successfully operating in Azerbaijan in a variety of fields. Fischer underlined that there are good prospects for energy cooperation between the nations, adding this topic was high on the agenda as part of the visit.
President Ilham Aliyev said that the Joint Declaration signed between the countries would boost bilateral relations. The Head of State noted economic cooperation between the countries is successful with trade turnover going up. The companies from the two countries are actively cooperating. President Ilham Aliyev touched upon the importance of the energy cooperation, in particular the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline. He pointed out the pipeline will provide additional opportunities for shipping Azerbaijani gas to Europe.

On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Head of State said Armenia continues to keep part of the Azerbaijani lands under occupation despite resolutions of international organizations, in particular the UN Security Council. The Azerbaijani leader said OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs reaffirmed that the status-quo is unacceptable.

The event featured a question-an-answer session with the presidents.

The Azerbaijani President and his spouse laid flowers at the monument.

Donaupark features monuments to outstanding world cultural figures. Uzeyir Hajibayli`s monument was unveiled here in 2006.
