President Tomislav Nikolic and his spouse Dragica Nikolic.

The Heads of State made speeches at the event.

They touched upon the expansion of the bilateral relations in the political, economic and cultural spheres.

President Tomislav Nikolic of Serbia and his spouse Dragica Nikolic have today visited the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Here, President Tomislav Nikolic and his spouse Dragica Nikolic were welcomed by Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

The President and his spouse were briefed on the activity of the Foundation.

The delegation was told that the main goal of the Foundation, established in memory of the Azerbaijani people`s national leader, is to study and popularize prominent political figure Heydar Aliyev`s rich heritage, give an idea to the future generations and foreign visitors about his large-scale activity to achieve Azerbaijan`s socio-economic, cultural progress.

They saw exhibits taken from the archive of the great leader and reflecting his childhood, youth, university years and career, pictures covering the very various moments of his life and giving a comprehensive idea of the whole history of Azerbaijan.

Tomislav Nikolic signed the Foundation`s Guest Book and was presented keepsake.

A monument to renowned Serbian inventor, engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla was unveiled in Baku on February 8. Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Tomislav Nikolic of Serbia with spouses Mehriban Aliyeva and Dragica Nikolic attended the inauguration ceremony.

President Ilham Aliyev and Tomislav Nikolic unveiled the monument and put flowers on it. First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and Serbian First Lady Dragica Nikolic also laid flowers at the monument.

The monument commemorating Nikola Tesla stands in one of the central parks of Baku, at the crossroads on the corner of Azadliq Avenue and Suleyman Rahimov Street. The authors of the 3,3–meter monument are renowned Azerbaijani sculptor Omar Eldarov and architect Sanan Salamzadeh. The monument is made of bronze and represents Nikola Tesla against the background of alternator.

Presidents Ilham Aliyev, Tomislav Nikolic and First ladies had a talk with Omar Eldarov, and then posed for photographs.

Both Presidents then addressed the ceremony. Serbian leader and his spouse expressed gratitude to Omar Eldarov.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Serbian leader Tomislav Nikolic have been joined by their delegations for an expanded meeting following their one-on-one talk.

President Ilham Aliyev said:
“Dear Mr. President,
Dear guests,
I wholeheartedly welcome all of you to Azerbaijan.
It is your first visit to Azerbaijan and I`m confident that it will have very good results. We have already had a broad exchange of views, and we see that there are beautiful opportunities for joint cooperation.

I`m confident that your visit will strengthen our political relations. This will certainly give a strong impetus to development of our economic relations. We have excellent experience for joint work on the economic front. I believe that concrete decisions on new projects will be made during the visit. There are wonderful prospects for the cooperation particularly in the fields of energy, transport and investment making. I`m confident that your visit will be of great importance for development of Serbia-Azerbaijan relations, and you will return to your country with good impressions.”

President Tomislav Nikolic said:
”Mr. President, I think that there is no need to make additional comments on friendly attitude of Serbia towards Azerbaijan. This friendship remains unchanged irrespective of who runs Serbia. Azerbaijan has become a very reliable partner for Serbia in the Eastern part of the world. Citizens live in a free society in the country under your wise leadership.

I think that both parties are benefiting from this friendship, and it`s already high time we transformed this friendship into concrete economic cooperation. And we want you to help us expand the scope of the work we have done so far. I think that direct investments between our countries can turn into long-term investments.”

The two presidents praised the Azerbaijan-Serbia relations, saying they were developing in various spheres.

They stressed the importance of the Serbian leader`s visit in terms of expansion of the two countries` relations.
The Heads of State expressed confidence the bilateral relations would further develop.

The two presidents exchanged views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including bilateral, regional and international ones.

President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic has today been given an official welcome to Azerbaijan.

A guard of honor was lined up for the Serbian President at the square decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva welcomed Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and his spouse Dragica Nikolic.

The Heads of State inspected a ceremonial Guard of Honor as an orchestra played the national anthems of Serbia and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani state and government officials were introduced to President Tomislav Nikolic, while members of the Serbian delegation to President Ilham Aliyev.

The Presidents and their spouses posed for photographs.
