'Armenia's steps could damage efforts towards settling Karabakh conflict'

02 February 2013 [12:25] - TODAY.AZ
“Armenia`s unconstructive position seriously damages the peace talks to find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” the Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh Public Union has said in a statement.
“Armenia continues steps that could seriously damage the efforts towards settling the Armenian-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”
“Azerbaijan supports peaceful settlement of the dispute, but the continuation of the occupation policy of Armenia and its unconstructive position seriously undermine the peace negotiations,” the statement said.

“The whole world knows that the unrecognized illegitimate regime, which conducted an ethnic cleansing of the Azerbaijani population in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, is a criminal structure built by Armenia.”

The statement noted: “For this reason, international organizations and the world countries do not recognize the so-called ‘elections’ held by this criminal regime in Nagorno-Karabakh.”
“’Officials’ of the criminal regime of Nagorno-Karabakh claim that their so-called ‘republic’ was recognized by Armenia. But they forget that Armenia already adopted, on 1 December 1989, a decision on the annexation of Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, the law that is still in effect.”

“In an effort to maintain the existing status quo and cover its occupation policy, Armenia is taking various measures in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, trying to present the criminal regime of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of the world. But these efforts can never lead to the recognition of the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. After all, the whole international community, international organizations and world powers have repeatedly confirmed that they recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” the statement said.

“The UN Security Council adopted four resolutions (? 822, 853, 874, 884), demanding an unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian forces from the occupied Azerbaijani lands. However, the Armenian side continues to disregard these resolutions.”
“Some foreign forces and organizations publish biased and defamatory information about Azerbaijan, which does not reflect the reality of our country. In particular, it can be said that the report of Freedom House, in which Azerbaijan is called a non-free, and Armenia a partly free country, reflects the thoughts of the lobbying groups ruled and funded by Armenia.”

The statement said: “The participation of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in the negotiation process is its right, both legal and historical right as the owner of Nagorno-Karabakh.”

“Organizations which are far from the objectivity and impartiality, like the Freedom House, should really look at the statements of the "partially free country", which grossly violated the rights of Azerbaijanis living in their own land, making them refugees and internally displaced persons, a country which is controlled by a terrorist regime and does not follow the standards of international law.” “Armenia`s unconstructive position seriously damages the peace talks to find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” the Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh Public Union has said in a statement.
