The Azerbaijani Consulate General in Aktau has organized an event marking the World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the city authorities, members of the Azerbaijani diaspora and journalists.

Speaking to the event, Consul General Rashad Mammadov noted that on the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1991, 31 December was declared a day of unity and solidarity of Azerbaijanis living all over the world. “Since that day, the Day of Solidarity has become the most important holiday for the Azerbaijani diaspora across the world.”

He also said Kazakhstan is home to more than 130,000 Azerbaijanis, who are full citizens of the country.
