
GUAM Parliamentary Assembly (PA) made new proposals for cooperation.
Security, development of inter-parliamentary relations, integration in other international organizations can be considered as promising areas of cooperation in the GUAM area, representative of the Azerbaijani delegation, MP Elton Mammadov said during a meeting of the Assembly today.
He said that GUAM PA's activity will continue to be based on the principles of mutually beneficial and consistent cooperation.
Baku hosted the fifth session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova) on December 19-20.
A communiqué was adopted following the meeting.
GUAM was established by the post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organisation, and left four years later. A decision was made to rename GUAM as an international organisation entitled 'Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM', at the body's first summit in Kiev in 2006.
