GUAM PA Bureau holds meeting in Baku

19 December 2012 [13:53] - TODAY.AZ
Baku is hosting a meeting of the Bureau of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly (PA).

The Bureau meeting is discussing the agenda of the fifth meeting of the GUAM PA, to be attended by Secretary General Valery Chechelashvili and delegations of GUAM member countries.

The agenda includes the integration of the member countries into Europe, the cooperation within the EU "Eastern Partnership" program, the role of parliaments in ensuring regional security, as well as the energy potential of the region's countries and other issues.

GUAM was established by the post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organisation, and left four years later. A decision was made to rename GUAM as an international organisation 'Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM', at the organisation's first summit in Kiev in 2006.
