'Azerbaijan-Georgia ties can only deepen'

19 December 2012 [14:42] - TODAY.AZ
Relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia can not change, they can only deepen, Georgian Parliament's Deputy Speaker Zurab Abashidze told journalists in Baku on Wednesday.

"Soon Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili will visit Azerbaijan and discuss prospects of bilateral relations," Abashidze said.

He said the new Georgian government is seriously considering all the issues of regional relations.

"Georgian-Azerbaijani issues are the most important for us. Heydar Aliyev laid the foundation of our relationship in such a way that no one can break them," Abashidze said.

Abashidze is attending the fifth meeting of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, which is underway in Baku on Wednesday.

GUAM was established by the post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organisation, and left four years later. A decision was made to rename GUAM as an international organisation 'Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM', at the organisation's first summit in Kiev in 2006.
