Anniversary of Azerbaijani Parliament congratulated in US - PHOTOS

 A solemn ceremony has been held in Washington on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of establishment of the Azerbaijani Parliament.

The event was attended by members of the US Congress and Senate, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the US Elin Suleymanov, SOCAR Vice President Khalig Mammadov and MP Asim Mollazade.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Elin Suleymanov spoke about the history of Azerbaijan’s parliamentarism. The next speaker was a member of the House of Representatives from Montana Danny Rehberg, who noted that there were ample opportunities for cooperation between the two countries. Indiana Representative Dan Burton stressed the importance of taking into account the geopolitical realities of the region when evaluating the strategic importance of Azerbaijan. Ohio Representative Jean Schmidt said Azerbaijan is the closest and strategic ally of the U.S. in combating terrorism and ensuring global security and stressed that the government of the United States should provide political support to Azerbaijan.

Senators from Minnesota and Pennsylvania have also noted the strategic importance of the country and stressed its role in European energy security and the active participation in the fight against terrorism. A member of U.S. Congress Working Group on Azerbaijan, Texas Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee stressed a high level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Texas. MP Asim Mollazade noted the usefulness of recepttrical visits between the parliamentary groups of the two countries.
