29 November 2012 [21:50] - TODAY.AZ
Foreign minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov has met a delegation led by European Union`s (EU) special representative for South Caucasus Philippe Lefort.

They exchanged views on the ongoing processes in South Caucasus and regional energy projects. The importance of Azerbaijan for Europe was underlined during the meeting. Minister Mammadyarov praised cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU.

Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, minister Mammadyarov said if Armenia accepts the OSCE Minsk Group`s proposals, it has to agree to sign the Final Peace Agreement.

According to the minister, in case Khojaly Airport is commissioned and flights are operated, the peace process will seriously be damaged. He also noted the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs share this position as well. Mammadyarov also pointed out the main obstacle for the peaceful settlement of the conflict was the continuation of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia.

Lefort stressed the necessity of building contacts between Azerbaijani and Armenian communities in order to achieve a lasting peace.
