
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Nov.28 received Latvian delegation led by the country’s Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis.
President Aliyev highly appreciated the level of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia, adding that the visit of Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis to Azerbaijan will contribute to the expansion of bilateral ties.
The Head of State said the Intergovernmental Commission plays a very important role in the selection of priority directions of cooperation between the two countries.
President Aliyev expressed his confidence that the visit of Latvian premier to Azerbaijan will be successful.
Latvian PM Valdis Dombrovskis, in turn, said he is visiting Azerbaijan for the first time and is actually impressed by the development process here.
Dombrovskis stressed there are good opportunities for the expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia and underscored a positive role of reciprocal visits in the development of bilateral ties.
According to Latvian PM, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Latvia has grown over the recent years. The visit of Latvian businessmen to Azerbaijan is an evidence of Latvia’s keen interest in the expansion of cooperation with Azerbaijan, Dombrovskis said.

The special representative delivered greetings of Vice-President of the European Commission, EU`s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton to the Azerbaijani leader.
The talks focused on prospects for development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and European Union, and issues related to settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
President Ilham Aliyev asked Philip Lefort to extend his greetings to Catherine Ashton.
