The ruling New Azerbaijan party has accused opposition leaders of not allowing young people to hold leading positions in their parties.
"Why are not new members admitted to the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party and Musavat? Deputy Executive Secretary, MP Siyavush Novruzov said in interview with the official website of the ruling party. The reason is that the leaders of these parties held all posts and positions themselves. They do not provide opportunities for young people and do not create the conditions for their activity."
Eight parties left former Azerbaijani Popular Front, Novruzov said.
"Each of late President Elchibey's deputies created parties," he added. "There is the same situation in Musavat. Each of party head Isa Gambar's deputies joined other party or created the party because they see that these people pull the party back, rather than promote it."
He added that 80 percent of the candidates nominated from the ruling party fell to young people, more than 20 percent - women in the municipal elections.
"We are striving to provide young people with chances for development during the parliamentary elections," he said. "But we do not see this in opposition parties' activity. These individuals have been putting forward their candidacy for many years. They failed to win, but do not change their beliefs. They had to cede their place to young people."
