Azerbaijan’s embassy in Turkey has sent a note to Australia’s embassy in Turkey regarding the resolution on the recognition of the so-called “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” adopted by the legislative body of the South Wales state of Australia, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev said.
He said the embassy of Australia stated that their country recognizes on the federal level Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Elman Abdullayev added that not all the statements supporting the principle of people’s self-determination mean the violation of a country’s territorial integrity.
“Azerbaijan has stated several times that it supports the principle of people’s self-determination, but this must not violate countries’ territorial integrity,” he said.
South Wales state of Australia had adopted a resolution on “Recognition of the right of peoples, including Nagorno Karabakh people to self-determination”. The resolution calls on the government of Australia to recognize the so-called “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” and establish relations with the separatist regime.
