An international conference titled “Construction of bridges” has started
in Baku. The conference is organized by the Association of Civil
Society Development in Azerbaijan (AVCIYA) and the Institute for
European Affairs (INEA).
Chairman of AVCIYA, Member of Parliament Elkhan
Suleymanov delivered an opening speech in the conference and spoke
about the democratization in Azerbaijan in recent years and cooperation
processes with Europe. He said that the Nagorno Karabakh problem is not a
conflict, it is aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan and the
occupation of the territories. Criticizing the activity of international
organizations Mr. Suleymanov underlined that the activity of the OSCE
Minsk Group, which has been engaged in the settlement of the conflict
for 20 years, has not yield results.
Director of the Institute for European Affairs (INEA), Professor Jurgen
Gramke said in his speech that Europe has a little information about
Azerbaijan: “This event will be significant step for this”.
The 2-day conference will hold discussions at panels titled "Cooperation
towards Europe" and "Economic relations between Azerbaijan and Europe".
