Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador to express its protest over a demonstration against Ramil Safarov and remarks by State Duma Member Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
Azeri deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov handed a note of protest to Vladimir Dorokhin.

The September 14 demonstration in the Russian capital was authorized by Moscow Mayor`s Office and organized by the Russian-Armenian Union. Demonstrators protested against the pardoning of Azerbaijani army officer Ramil Safarov. Zhirinovsky, who attend the event, made anti-Azerbaijani remarks, inciting hatred, terror and violence against the Azerbaijan people.
Khalafov told the Russian ambassador that Zhirinovsky`s “irresponsible call” cast a shadow on “cooperative and friendly relations between the two countries”.

The deputy FM also described the incident as “a blow to Russia`s mediation mission in the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk group”.
Khalafov expressed hope Zhirinovsky`s “irresponsible remarks” would be treated adequately by the Russian authorities.
