Azerbaijan-Israel relations mulled in Washington

The American Jewish Committee`s (AJC) Washington Office on Thursday hosted event on Azerbaijan.

The event brought together members of the Jewish community in the US, diplomats, regional experts, as well as member of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Sevinj Fataliyeva.

The participants exchanged views on Azerbaijan`s leading role in the region, and its successful foreign policy. Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to the US Elin Suleymanov expressed gratitude to the Committee for its interest in Azerbaijan.

He also recalled a recent visit of AJC`s Executive Director David Harris to Azerbaijan.
Suleymanov said Azerbaijan was a source of stability and development in the region.
The diplomat also said that Azerbaijan was capable of contributing the development of the region.

He also spoke of the Azerbaijani women`s important role in the social life, as well as ethnic and religious tolerance in the society.

Suleymanov said that Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev attached great importance to developing intercultural dialogue and increasing the country`s role in this process.
On Azerbaijan-US relations, Suleymanov stressed the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership and regional safety, joint efforts to fight against the international terrorism and ensure energy security.

On Azerbaijan-Israel relations, the Ambassador said that people of Azerbaijan and Israel had historically been friends. He also stressed necessity of continuing the cooperation between the two countries in various spheres.
