Azerbaijan will continue its efforts to bring the truth about the Khojaly genocide to the notice of the world public, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told media today.
He added that these efforts will be made for not only Europe and Latin America, but the whole world to understand about the Khojaly genocide.
"There are many methods of bringing the truth to the public," he said. "One of the most effective is to erect a monument to the Khojaly genocide victims.
He stressed that such propaganda is conducted 365 days a year, rather than occasioanlly.
The 'Justice for Khojaly' campaign initiated by the vice president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, and Azerbaijan's diplomatic corps are actively operating within the campaign, Abdullayev said. The parliaments of several Latin American countries adopted documents that recognise the Khojaly genocide. A monument to the Khojaly genocide victims was erected in Mexico, he recalled.
Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly on Feb. 26, 1992. Some 613 people were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men.
A total of 1000 civilians were injured during the genocide. Eight families were annihilated, 130 children lost one parent and 25 lost both. Additionally, 1275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 remains unknown.
