Service for Khojaly genocide victims held in Mexico City’s Catholic Church - PHOTOS

The first religious service after the repair of a Mexican catholic church of Tlakskoake has been officially dedicated to the memory of victims of the Khojaly genocide, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico told Trend on Monday.

On August 22, in the historic area of the centre of the Mexican capital Mexico City, the official opening ceremony of a monument to the victims of the Khojaly genocide and the opening of Tlakskoake Khojaly square was held.

Tlakskoake Catholic Church, built in the XVI century is situated here. On August 26, after the repair work, the first Sunday service was held at the church. At the initiative of the Catholic Church, it was dedicated to the memory of victims of the Khojaly genocide.

During the church service abbot Eduardo Lozano informed parishioners of the Khojaly genocide. He said that 20 years ago, Azerbaijan was subjected to aggression, as a result of which genocide was committed killing many civilians. Eduardo Lozano emphasised the inadmissibility of such crimes and reminded the congregation about the inevitability of the victory of the ideas of the Lord of peace and justice. A monument to the victims of Khojaly genocide is a symbol of peace and justice, said Lozano.

A continuation of the service prayers for the victims of the Khojaly genocide and for peace throughout the world was read.
