Creation of Common Turkic alphabet mulled

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) offers to create a common Turkic alphabet, CCTS Secretary General Khalil Akinci said, APA reports quoting Kazakhstan’s press.

According to him, currently the Turkish Academy in Kazakhstan is considering creating a common alphabet for the Turkic speaking countries on the initiative of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States: “We are not speaking about replacing of one language with the other one. No one is going to impose anything to somebody. The idea aims to create a common alphabet on a basis of the Turkic languages to understand each other well.”

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States was established under the summit’s order held in Nakhchivan in 2009. Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan include to the CCTS. The first meeting of the council was held in Astana last year. The next meeting will be held in Bishkek in August, 2012.
