
The Azerbaijani embassy in France and Azerbaijan`s permanent representation at UNESCO held an event to mark the 20th anniversary of occupation of Shusha town.
Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov said Shusha was occupied by Armenian armed forces on May 8 1992. Amirbayov told of history of Shusha – the cradle of Azerbaijani music. The diplomat said the town of Shusha, founded by Panah Ali khan Javanshir in 1756, plays an important role in social, political, cultural and historical life of Azerbaijani nation. Amirbayov noted that during the occupation 480 men were killed, 600 wounded, 552 children lost their parents, 22 schools, 279 historical, cultural and religious monuments destroyed by Armenians.
The event brought together the officials of France, representatives of the diplomatic corps, Azerbaijani Diaspora and students. The CD “Shusha” and “Irs” (Heritage) magazine were disseminated among the participants.
