'Azerbaijan is strategic partner of Japan'

A presentation “Azerbaijan – Land of Fires” has been held in the Japanese parliament at the initiative of Central Asia and Caucasus Research Institute.

The event, organized by Azerbaijan`s Embassy in the country, brought together member of Japanese parliament, diplomats, businessmen and researchers on Caucasus countries.
Tetsuji Tanaka, Executive Director of the Central Asia and Caucasus Research Institute said the purpose of the presentation is to get more information about Azerbaijan which is the leader of the region.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Japan Gursel Ismayilzade spoke of the accomplishments made in Azerbaijan in all spheres since the country regained independence 20 years ago. The ambassador recalled national leader Heydar Aliyev`s visit to Japan in 1998. He also added President Ilham Aliyev`s official visit to Japan in 2006 had opened new pages in cooperation between the two countries.

Ismayilzade also highlighted the role of Azerbaijan in energy security of Europe. The ambassador said Azerbaijan is recognized a reliable partner in the world, adding the country`s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council proves this.

The diplomat also spoke of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying Armenia does not honor documents adopted by international organizations.The event participants also saw a documentary on Azerbaijan`s history, culture and tourism potential.

President of Central Asia and Caucasus Research Institute, MP Mrs. Koike Yuriko thanked the ambassador for detailed information.Mrs. Yuriko also spoke of Azerbaijan`s great achievements. She noted Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Japan.
