Azerbaijan offers to create union of Turkic-speaking political parties

02 March 2012 [19:24] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan believes that it is necessary to establish a union of political parties of Turkic-speaking countries, ruling New Azerbaijan Party Deputy Executive Secretary, MP Mubariz Gurbanli told Trend today.

He said the initiative must be put forward to establish such an organization.

"I really appreciate the establishment of such an organization, but there is no such proposal," he said. "Azerbaijan maintains bilateral relations with political parties of some countries. The operations are underway to establish relations with political parties in other
Turkic-speaking countries. But there was no proposal to establish such an organization uniting political parties of all Turkic-speaking countries. If such a proposal appears, we will think and react."

He said such an organization will have a positive impact on the cultural, economic and other ties between Turkic-speaking countries.

"But there is one problem," he said. "The blocks of political parties operate in different ways. Political parties must make the initiative and unite to create such a union."

Azerbaijani political parties may also come up with such an initiative.

The MP stressed the importance of discussing this issue at a meeting of political parties of the Turkic-speaking countries.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani opposition Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu made such a proposal 7-8 years ago. He said that it is possible to create such a union on the basis of Turkism.

"I offered to create an alliance of democratic parties of the Turkic-speaking peoples, the center of which would be in Turkey," Sardar Jalaloglu told Trend. "Then some people were interested in this idea, but nobody realized it. I think that it may play an important
role in the political development of all the Turkic-speaking peoples."

He said such a union can play the role of an intermediate stage for the integration of the Turkic-speaking peoples in the global world.

"It also may play a role in creating a common Turkic language, Turkic economy and culture of all the Turkic-speaking peoples," he said.
