Malaysia`s the South-South Information Gateway (SSIG) agency has published an article titled “Black January: Towards the independence of Azerbaijan”.
The article reads: “Every year people of Azerbaijan commemorate the Black January and pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the tragedy dating back to the 20 January 1990. Twenty-two years ago over the night from 19th to 20th January military units of former Soviet Union invaded the capital Baku city and some regions of Azerbaijan. The invasion was conducted with particular cruelty and unprecedented atrocities.
In the wake of illegal intervention of the Soviet troops into Baku city and regions of Azerbaijan, 147 men were cruelly killed, more than 700 men were wounded, more than 800 men were illegally arrested and 5 people vanished. In fact, women, children, and senior citizens, as well as ambulance and militia employees were among the killed people. The soldiers plundered and burnt 200 houses and 80 vehicles, including ambulance cars.
The martyrs, who died in that night, sacrificed their lives from freedom that Azerbaijan enjoys at present. Undoubtedly, those heroes will never be forgotten. The sons and daughters of the Motherland killed at that terrible night paved the way to the national liberation and independence of the Azerbaijani people.”
