
Azerbaijan took office as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from Jan.1. Azerbaijan was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for two-year term. Five new members were elected to the UN Security Council on October 21 2011.
Azerbaijan gathered 155 votes and was elected to the UN Security Council for two years in the voting held on October 24. Azerbaijan replaced Bosnia and Herzegovina, the term of tenure of which expired on Dec. 31, 2011.
