New iOs to have Samsung chips

17 July 2013 [13:12] - TODAY.AZ
Apple will use Samsung's chips for its 2015 iOS devices, a report from The Korea Economic Daily claims, citing industry sources.

Samsung has been building the chips for Apple's iOS devices since the release of the first iPhone in 2007, even though the two companies have been in a patent-related lawsuit war for more than a year.

In April of this year, reports surfaced that due to the patent dispute, Apple would no longer buy its chips from Samsung. Instead, the reports stated, Taiwan's TSMC would build the company's upcoming A7 processor.

But according to the new report, TSMC would only build chips for the next one or two iPhone releases – The Korea Economic Daily specifically mentions the iPhone 7, which is scheduled for release in the second half of 2015 – after which Apple would revert back to Samsung as its main chip supplier.

Until the Samsung-Apple patent dispute is resolved, such reports should be taken with a grain of salt. But although the two companies have their share of disagreements, we wouldn't be too surprised to see them working together again.
