Artists from 20 countries are painting models of the Maiden Tower and creating paper kites near the historic Baku landmark.
They are taking part in the second Giz Galasi International Art Festival which opened today.
The
head of the Icheri Sheher historic reserve, Mikail Jabbarov, said in
his opening speech that the festival, would promote one of Azerbaijan`s
most ancient monuments, the Maiden Tower, and promote dialogue among
cultures.
He especially thanked Azerbaijan`s first lady, Mehriban Aliyeva, for her assistance in organizing the festival.
Welcoming
the festival participants, the chief executive of the Museum of Modern
Art, Jeyhun Agakishibayli, said the winning model of the Maiden Tower
would be presented to the museum.
The director of Mexico`s Museum of Modern Art was one of the guests at the opening ceremony.
The
brain child of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the festival is organized
by the Icheri Sheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve, the
Museum of Modern Art and the Giz Galasi art gallery.
The first Giz Galasi Festival was held last May.
