Stefan Orn: "Running Scared" is a great song, and I just might come support Ell and Nikky live

19 March 2011 [14:32] - TODAY.AZ
First of all, we would like to know, what did you feel, when your song "Running Scared" was selected by the jury for Azerbaijan’s performance on Eurovision?

I was excited, its always an honor to have a song in Eurovision. I knew that I had a good chance because they called me when there was six song left and four of them where mine.

How familiar with Azerbaijan are you? Have you ever been here, or maybe have future plans for visiting?

I never been there but I´d love to go. We talked about it when I recorded Safura's album. I’ve heard that Baku is really beautiful. Hopefully I will go there with my rockband Apollo Drive very soon to have a gig.

Its quite interesting, for the second straight year, your songs are being selected for representing Azerbaijan at Eurovision song contests. Is it pure luck, in your opinion?

I dont think anything has to do with luck, its hard work. If you work hard then things comes to you and Im a hard worker.

You wrote "Running Scared" in collaboration with Sandra Bjurman and Iain Farguhanson… what song components were you responsible for?

I had an idea in my head and started to record a track. Me and Sandra work together a lot and I played my idea for her and she loved it. She came up with this great chorus idea and after 30 min we had finished the song. Sometimes it is like that. It was the same thing with when we wrote Drip Drop it took about 50 min. Then the hard part is to produce and record the song. It sometimes take a week or two. Iain helped us with the middle 8 because I wanted to change it when I was recording with Eldar and Nikki.

According to British bookmakers, the favorites in this year’s contest are France and Norway. What’s your opinion?

Two different songs. The French song is beautiful in its on way but in that genre there is much stronger songs and the Norweigan song is not my taste at all but maybe its right for the Eurovision, hard to say. I dont think that’s a song for the european radiostations though.

Some critics agree on something: “Running Scared” is a romantic song, and does not really fit into Eurovision. They claim that such songs have rarely succeeded in the competition. Is it really like that, does Europe really likes inflammatory songs?

Well, maybe they right about Eurovision maybe not, but I know that Running Scared is a really great song especially for the radiostations and it's a song that really mean something. If you listen to the lyrics of most of the song its crap. I have played it for some big european artists who would love to have it as single for their own. Dont forget that a song is song and it doesnt matters where you put it. A good song fits everywhere.

Do you have any plans of visiting Dusseldorf and provide some live support for Ell/Nikki on May 10th?

I’d love to but it depends on my schedule. Its really tight but I’ll try to leave a spot open. I couldn’t go last year because I had a TV gig with my own rockband so I would love to go this year. We have a discussion right now with a couple of people from Ukraine About my Rockband Apollo Drive. We want to realease the album in the east Europe and go for a tour later this summer. We would love to come to Baku. Greetings from Sweden!
