August 26 was announced as International Day of Azerbaijani mugham and the music day of the countries located in Great Silk Road. The decision was adopted by mayor of Canadian city Niagara and leadership of annual International Niagara Music Festival, chief of the festival on Azerbaijan Mikail Hajiyev said.
Azerbaijani mugham will be annually performed in Niagara, on August 26, he said. Days of symphonic music and mugham of Azerbaijan will also take place in Toronto and Niagara from August 24-28 as a part of the 12th International Music Festival.
Photo exhibition of the popular sculptor Omar Eldarov will also take place in Toronto and Niagara. Omar Eldarov embodied portraits of the two great leaders of Turkic world – Heydar Aliyev and Ataturk, first lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, who has invaluable merits in popularization of the national music, as well as coryphaeus of Azerbaijani musical art, literature and painting – Uzeyir Hajibayli, Fikrat Amirov, Fizuli, Huseyn Javid, Sattar Bahlulzade.
The events were organized with support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, organizing committee of Niagara Festival, Ministries of Culture and Tourism, and Education of Azerbaijan and Embassy of Azerbaijan to Canada. The events will bring together top-ranking officials of Canada, representatives of the diplomatic corps and workers of culture.
