Jangi pop-folklore ensemble has given a stunning concert as part of the Baku International Jazz Day.

At the concert, famous TV and radio host, Honored Cultural Worker Rahib Azeri spoke about Jangi pop-folklore ensemble which was largely inspired by the 90s "Aypara" music group led by a famous producer and composer Vagif Gerayzade.

In those years, the talent of the young musician Mirjavad Jafarov was noticed by Vagif Gerayzade, who invited him to his jazz-folk ensemble "Aypara". Subsequently, he worked with such famous performers and musicians as Sakina Ismailova, Alim Qasimov, Salman Gambarov, Jamil Amirov, Elchin Shirinov and many others.

History of pop-folklore ensemble

Since 2002, the ensemble is being led by the People's Artist Mirjavad Jafarov. The history of the ensemble, created in 1992, is associated with the names of famous personalities. However, the tragic death of the founder of the group and its artistic director Rafig Babayev, as well as thedeparture of Siyavush Karimi, negatively affected the ensemble.

In fact, Mirjavad Jafarov made the ensemble famous not only in Azerbaijan but also abroad.

National instruments in the hands of the group members gave rise to a unique melody - a synthesis of mugham and jazz.

The ensemble's repertoire was based on new arrangements of folk and composer songs, processed in the folk fusion style. In 2013, the folklore-jazz ensemble became pop-folklore.

The team consists of dance and pop groups. With the Jangi band, the virtuoso musician has repeatedly successfully represented Azerbaijan at many international festivals, concerts and projects. By the way, the ensemble was one of the participants in the event as part of the International Jazz Day in 2015 in Paris.

The concert timed to the International Jazz Day aroused great public interest.

International Jazz Day is an annual event established by UNESCO to celebrate the growing awareness of the international community about jazz as a force that promotes peace, unity, dialogue and increased contacts between people. Since 2012, the celebration is being held annually on April 30.

As part of the celebration, jazz concerts are being held by the Culture Ministry in the International Mugham Center, the Rashid Behbudov State Song Theater from  April 29 to May 4.
