Pomegranate Orchard movie named best in Turkey

Azerbaijan’s "Pomegranate Orchard" movie by Ilgar Najaf was successfully screened in Turkey.

"Pomegranate Orchard" won "Best film" award the 7th Malatya International Film Festival, held on November 9-16.

The film was presented to the audience  by actors, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Gurban Ismayilov and Ilaha Hasanova,Trend Life reported.

"Pomegranate Orchard" features a story about an old man, who lives along with his grandson and daughter-in-law in the decrepit house amidst of the huge pomegranate garden. Sudden comeback of his wayward son has changed a gentle rhythm of their peaceful existence. Forgotten bitter memories have come back and even more, new challenges are in store for them.

Scriptwriters are Asif Rustamov, Ilgar Najafov and Roelof Jan Minneboo (The Netherlands). Operator-director is Aykhan Salar (Germany), animation director is Rafig Nasirov, executive producer Akif Aliyev, and producer Mushfig Hatamov.

The cast includes Gurban Ismayilov, Anar Hasanov, Samimi Farkhadov and Hasan Agayev.

The world premiere of the movie was held within the “East of the West” competition of the Czech Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

Notably, the movie is also included in the long list of applicants for the Oscar 2017 in the nomination "The best film in a foreign language".

By the way, movie's scriptwriters Ilgar Najaf, Asif Rustamov and Roelof Jan Minneboo (The Netherlands) received the "Best Screenplay" prize at the 24th "Listopad" International Film Festival in Minsk.

With participation of international and national guests, Malatya International Film Festival carried out a unique cinema festivity in Eastern Turkey with its international competition, thematic sections, premiers, special screenings and cinema courses.

Every year in November Festival brings together the audience with the most qualified productions throughout the world and also, besides the competition excitement it has been a full cinema week with many events for five years. 

MIFF has hosted more than 2000 cinema proffessional from Turkey and abroad so far. 

The festival features and national short films competitions, has included the national features competition to its festival programme in order to provide moral and material support to the cinema sector.
