Azerbaijani pianist wins second prize of Chopin Competition in Estonia

Azerbaijani junior pianist Narmina Ismailova won the 2nd Prize of the 11th Chopin international competition of young pianists in the Estonian town of Narva. Narmina, who performed Chopin’s Waltz in E-flat major, opus 18, also joined a traditional gala concert of winners in Tallinn accompanied by the Narva Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Anatoly Schura.

The Frederic Chopin International Competition of young pianists brought together 50 musicians from 11 countries.

The international jury chaired by Professor Peep Lassmann, included Professor Pavel Kaminski (Poland), Teppo Koivisto (Finland), Toms Ostrovskis (Latvia) and Victor Portnoy (Russia).

Azerbaijan was represented in the middle and older age groups by pupils of the Central special music school named after Bulbul and Music school named after Gara Garayev.

In an interview with AZERTAC correspondent, Director of the Narva musical school, Deputy chairman of the organizing committee of the contest Tatiana Goncharova said that technical skills of the Azerbaijani pianists meet the high requirements of the Chopin Competition.
