“The idea of holding the National Clothes festive was offered by me in 2006,” she said. “Many countries celebrate the festive devoted to the National Clothes Day, which promote tourism industry. Such event is necessary to be held in Azerbaijan, because it will attract many tourists to our beautiful country,” Khalilova said.

“Azerbaijani national clothes are an integral part of the cultural heritage of our ancient people. We are proud of our culture and history reflecting our ancestors’ specifics,” she said.

Azerbaijani national women's dresses have elegant silhouette and cut, emphasizing flexible mills of Azerbaijani beauties. They are decorated with intricate embroidery and with beautiful golden tape.

The national costume was basically the same in all historical ethnographic zones of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan women's dress of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century consisted of lower and top dresses. The top wear consisted of top shoulder and belt wears. Women's top shoulder dress is top shirtdress, back dress and chapkan, a dress consisting of lining and false sleeves.

In the cities, women wore a veil over skirt when going outside.

Men's clothing is also very distinctive. They emphasize the masculinity without restricting men’s rapid movements.

The most remarkable element of Azerbaijanis costume is its underwear. It (both female and male) sewn from linen and cotton. The rich families' beautiful underwear is sewn from silk.

During the recent archeological excavations, some needle and spoke, made ??of bronze, from the early Bronze Age were found in Azerbaijan. These findings prove that the ancient population of Azerbaijan could sew clothes.
