Letters from Paris screened for Parisian

A short documentary "Letters from Paris" dedicated to Azerbaijani statesman and selfless fighter for national independence Alimardan bey Topchubashev was screened in Paris on October 6.

Taking place in the Center of Azerbaijani Culture, the film was about the life and political activities of Topchubashev.

Addressing the event before film's screening, Azerbaijani ambassador to France Elchin Amirbeyov noted that the documentary has been devoted to the chairman of the first Azerbaijan Democratic Republic Parliament in 1918-1920.

He also stressed that last year, 150^th anniversary of the politician's birthday, fighting for the future of the Azerbaijani people was marked.

Alimardan bey Topchubashev was born in Tbilisi on May 4, 1863. In early year of his young hood, he entered politics. After the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, he was elected as a Speaker of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic Parliament and headed Azerbaijani delegation in the Paris Peace Conference.

Topchubashev held meetings with Clemenceau, Wilson and Francesco Nitti and other outstanding politicians of his time.

He actively participated in many international conferences. Topchubashev always highlighted that the only way out of plight for Azerbaijani people is to gain independence.

His desire was realized in 1991 when Azerbaijan restored its independence.

In conclusion, the ambassador thanked Ramiz Abutalibov, who worked for a long time in France as diplomat and greatly contributed to identification of Azerbaijani emigrants as well as director Tair Aliyev and Intigam Gasimzada, a famous publicist, who was the writer of the documentary.

Alexandr Nikolsky, who was the student of Topchubashev also shared his memories about his outstanding teacher. He said that Alekper Bey was not only his teacher but also a friend who told him about his father Alimardan Beke Topchibasheva.

The guests watched the documentary with great interest.
