Jordanian Queen: Nizami Ganjavi's works are still relevant today

Queen Noor of Jordan has been awarded the Nizami Ganjavi International Award in Washington.

Nizami Ganjavi was a great Azerbaijani poet and the 12th century greatest representative of the Eastern Renaissance.

At the awards ceremony Queen Noor expressed great satisfaction with her participation in the South Caucasus Forum in Azerbaijan's capital Baku, which was organized in May by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center and the Club of Madrid under the patronage of the President of Azerbaijan.

"Security of the ancient architecture and a reflection of the past in the modern buildings in Baku fascinated me," the Queen said at the ceremony.

Queen Noor also said Nizami Ganjavi was an extraordinary poet whose works are still relevant today.

According to the Queen, the creative work of Nizami Ganjavi is associated not only with Azerbaijan but also with the history of literary thought of the world, and makes a great contribution to intercultural dialogue.

"Promotion by Nizami Ganjavi of the intercultural dialogue, which is so important for all of us, as well as of peaceful coexistence, gender equality, and equality of people, left an indelible mark on the development of civilization," she said.

She also said that despite its short history the Nizami Ganjavi International Center has given a new impetus to the protection and promotion of the treasures of Nizami Ganjavi, and the unity of world leaders in the support for this idea can only be welcomed.

According to the Queen, protection and support of President Ilham Aliyev is the biggest support for the successful continuation of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center's activity and care for Azerbaijani culture.

Queen Noor said it is very commendable to see the book and DVD "The Poetry of the Magnificent Sage" devoted to Nizami Ganjavi by Ismail Serageldin, who is one of the most influential personalities in the field of science and culture of the Muslim world, and it will enable more people to understand the work of Nizami.

The Queen is delighted to have received the Nizami Ganjavi International Award. According to her, as an honorary member of the Center, she will provide full support and share experience with other members of the Board of Trustees for further development of the organization.

During the event attendees were briefed on the "Road Map" meeting, which was held on July 16-17 in Baku by the Library of Alexandria, the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, Club of Madrid and the Foundation Culture of Peace with the support of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora of Azerbaijan; it was agreed to hold a series of meetings in the U.S. under the patronage of Queen Noor.
