Baku hosts conference on Turkmen poet

The "Magtymguly Fragi" scientific and cultural conference has been held at Caucasus University in Baku today with the assistance of the embassy to mark the Turkmen National Revival, Unity and Magtymguly Fragi Poetry Day.

"Turkmenistan marks the National Revival, Unity and Magtymguly Fragi Poetry Day on May 18," Turkmen ambassador to Azerbaijan Toyli Komekov said. "This day is considered one of the main festivals of the country. It is a symbol of the connection between generations of the Turkmen people and ancient culture."

He said Turkmenistan is an independent and neutral country with a rapidly growing economy.

He said new laws are actively being adopted meeting modern requirements. Rapid reforms are being carried out in education and science.

Turkmenistan, having huge reserves of hydrocarbons, develops its energy sector, under the leadership of President Berdimuhamedov, as well as other sectors of the economy, he said.

Komekov said that the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, stretching over 7,000 kilometers, which will allow China to export 40 bcm. meters of Turkmen gas annually was commissioned in late 2009.

A new branch of the gas pipeline to Iran with a capacity of 20 billion cubic meters per year was also commissioned.

The diplomat added that one of the largest energy project - the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is at the stage of active implementation. It is designed to make a real contribution to sustainable socio-economic development of the Asian region.

The diplomat emphasized that a new page has been recently opened in the Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations thanks to the efforts of leaders of both countries.

"Today we celebrate a holiday of friendship of the peoples living on both shores of the Caspian Sea," he said.

The ambassadors of several countries attended the conference.

Fragi made ??an invaluable contribution to the development of human culture through literature, science and philosophy. He fluently spoke Arabic and Persian. He significantly changed the Turkmen poetic language, bringing it closer to the people's one.

The conference was attended by the ambassadors of several countries, leaders, teachers and students of Caucasus University.

Fragi's works were voiced by Turkmen students from Azerbaijani various universities in different languages. A small art program was demonstrated.

The participants also saw an exhibition on the history of the Turkmen people.
