Azeri pianist wins Davorin Jenko competition

The 9th International musical contest “Davorin Yenko” was held in Belgrade. The competition has brought together young pianists from Serbia, Russia, Ukraine, Austria, Slovenia, Macedonia, Croatia, Russia, Ukraine and other countries. Azerbaijan was represented by the pupil of Khirdalan musical school Atabala Manafzadeh.

According to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Serbia, the competition was held in five age categories. The Azerbaijani pianist has won a competition in Under-14 and Under-17 age categories. The judges included prominent musical experts from Croatia, Spain, Serbia and Macedonia.

“Davorin Jenko” in the last eight years has attracted the attention of both Serbian and foreign musical population with its traditional, yet open attempt to reconcile the clashes between the and flexible attitude towards music and its traditional and modern approach with the appearance of artists of all ages, education and interests. More than 6000 competitors from Serbia and abroad (Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, Macedonia, Bosnia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Russia, Austria, France, Ukraine, Hungary, Montenegro and other countries) that took part in the competition during the last five years, the jury of experts made up of distinguished pedagogues and performers from Serbia and abroad (Germany, England, China, Austria, Ukraine, Slovenia, Russia, Spain, Great Britain and so on) the welcoming attitude of the hosts and the specific manner of awarding speak highly of the organization and content of this competition.

Music School "Davorin Jenko" was founded in 1951, when lessons in piano, violin and music theory were offered for not more then dozen of pupils. When it gained the rank of secondary school (2000), the work in all departments was continued and some new subjects were introduced.

The number of students has been significantly increased, and today the school offers highest level of professional music education to more then 750 students.

The school is one of the largest in Serbia. The work of all departments is organized on four locations. Along with the music program, the general education for music students is organized as well. The school has significant role in cultural life of municipality and the town of Belgrade itself. As a member of national and European music associations, the school is trying to establish new standards in music education. The teaching plan was changed, expanded and reformed according to the demands of modern pedagogy. The school gained much recognition for its work both on regional and national levels.
