12 December 2011 [16:42] - TODAY.AZ
The European Union launched new project aimed at enhancement of Azerbaijan's capacity to make the best use of the EU assistance, the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan reported on Monday.

The "Implementation of Twinning, TAIEX and Sigma Operations in Azerbaijan" (ITTSO II) project will support the Ministry of Economic Development as well the other government bodies and agencies of Azerbaijan applying for EU assistance.

The objectives of this 24-month long project are directed at a steady increase of a number of TAIEX, SIGMA and Twinning projects; provision of the information and support on successful identification, preparation and implementation of those projects and events in Azerbaijan.

The project will increase awareness in the use of the EU instruments. The sustainability of the project will be ensured by increasing capacity of the Programme Administration office of the Ministry of Economic Development to operate on its own in the future.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Roland Kobia stressed that the launch of the ITTSO II project constitutes a good step for facilitation and further intensification of the contacts between the EU and Azerbaijan. "It should help further deepening of relations between Azerbaijan and EU as it will serve to enhance the capacity of the Azerbaijani institutions and promote approximation of their working practices to those in the EU", he said.

The project is led by the International Management Group (IMG) in consortium with two junior partners - HAUS Finnish Institute of Public Management Ltd (Finland) and European Institute of Public Administration (The Netherlands).
