Transneft resumes oil pumping via Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline

09 November 2011 [12:00] - TODAY.AZ
Transneft resumed oil pumping via the Baku-Makhachkala- Novorossiysk pipeline. Earlier, the company suspended oil pumping via the pipeline because some elements were illegally cut into the pipeline, a spokesman for "Transneft" Igor Demin told Trend over phone on Tuesday.

There was an oil leak between the villages of Karl Marx and Vinogradnoe in the Kizlyar region of Dagestan. As a result of the leakage, about five cubic metres of fuel spilled. The area of contamination was approximately 30 to 35 square metres.

Demin said that this will not affect oil transportation from the port of Novorossiysk.

"Novorossiysk has large oil trade stocks," he said. "The weather in Novorossiysk is very unstable at this time of year and a large amount of oil has accumulated there. So, shipping will not be affected."
