Baku to host meeting of Azerbaijani-Swiss Intergovernmental Commission

The next meeting of Azerbaijani-Swiss Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation will be held in Baku in December, Azerbaijani Deputy Economic Development Minister Niyazi Safarov said at the opening of the Azerbaijani-Swiss Business Forum in Baku on Thursday.

Safarov noted the Intergovernmental Commission's major role in the development of trade-economic relations between the two countries. Particularly, he said, studying the level of trade and economic relations between the two countries, one can say that they are developing along an ascending line.

"Despite the high level relations, the two countries have great potential to further improve and expand trade and economic relations," Safarov said.

He said the business forum involved more than 100 companies from both sides. He also expressed confidence that the twp countries' companies will reach an agreement at the Baku business forum and will have collaboration.

Azerbaijan is interested in expanding trade and economic relations with more than 147 countries, Safarov said.

Speaking at the event, Swiss State Councilor, Minister of Economy and Health of the Canton of Geneva Pierre-Francois Unger said Azerbaijan is developing rapidly and have every opportunity to establish good partnership relations between the countries.

Particularly, Switzerland is willing to share experience with Azerbaijan in the field of industry, education and health, he said.

Azerbaijan and Switzerland have already laid the foundation for cooperation. Unger noted the activities of the trade mission of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR)

in Geneva, as well as work on joint production of cement in the Garadag district of Baku.
