Agriculture and tourism are the areas having the greatest potential for job creation in Azerbaijan, the chairman of Azerbaijani Parliament's social policy committee Hadi Rajabli said today at an international conference on "the Role of the State Employment Service to provide decent work: modern approaches and priorities" .
The conference is held in Baku with the support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Azerbaijan and the International Labor Organization.
"Over the past eight years, more than 900,000 jobs have been created in Azerbaijan. Different areas of agriculture and agro-processing, as well as the scope of travel services have the potential to create new jobs in the country," said Rajabli.
According to him, for about three years, Azerbaijan has been working on the preparation of the Law on Social Services, adoption of which will be an important event in strengthening social security in the country.
"The law will enable to increase the coverage of social services, increase the number of government agencies, organizations, and NGOs involved in social service," said Rajabli.
The Minister of Labour and Social Protection Fizuli Alekperov said at the conference that the biggest challenge for Azerbaijan in ensuring decent work is to involve high-quality workforce in the country.
"In parallel with this, an important task to maintain a growth rate of economy is the development of local working capacity," said Alekperov.
According to him, the moment which is of concern for the Ministry is informal employment, which creates problems in ensuring decent labor.
"To solve this problem, administrative measures are not only enough, it needs to expand cooperation with social partners," said Alekperov.
