
The agricultural production in Azerbaijan has grown by 58.1 percent since 1993, the chairman of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan Arif Veliyev said in an article, which was published in the official press.
At the same time, he said grain production in Azerbaijan increased by 1.7 times in 2010 compared with 1993.
"Potato production in this period increased by 6.3 times, vegetables - 2.4 times, melons - 9.2 times, fruits and berries - 2.1 times," said Veliyev.
According to him, during the reporting period, meat production increased by 2.7 times, milk - 1.9 times, eggs - 2 times, and wool - 1.6 times.
During the first eight months of 2011, the agricultural production in Azerbaijan has increased by 9.4 percent, including crop production - 13.7 percent, livestock - 4.2 percent as compared to the same period of the last year.
As of Sept. 1, 2.35 million tons of cereals, including corn, were harvested from 942,500 hectares. At the same, grain yield in Azerbaijan was 24.9 centners per hectare, an increase of 4.8 t/ha.
Since the beginning of the season, there were harvested 688,700 tons of potatoes (an increase of 38,000 tons compared to the same period of last year), 962,000 tons of vegetables (31,500 tons), 295,800 tons of fruits and berries (47,700 tons), 442,100 tons of melons (66,700 tons), 398 tons of green tea leaves (17.8 tons), 2.114,2 tons of tobacco (343 tons), 24,000 tons of grapes (855 tons).
In the field of livestock, over the first eight months of 2011, there were produced 285,500 tons of meat in live weight, 1.07 million tons of milk, 664.5 million units of eggs, 14,700 tons of wool.
Compared to the same period of the last year, in January-August of this year, production of meat grew by 4.8 percent, milk - 7.7 percent and wool - 5.6 percent, but eggs - dropped by 16.3 percent.
