"Processes in the Middle East question the implementation of international transportation projects"

12 September 2011 [18:06] - TODAY.AZ
Recent processes in the Middle East put under question the implementation of short-term international projects in the transportation of hydrocarbons, said Vagif Aliyev, head of SOCAR’s investment department.

To him,, Azerbaijan has not received complaints from Israel in connection with the purchase and sale of natural gas. He noted that the implementation of this idea requires a gas pipeline from Turkey to Syria: “I do not think that the political situation in Syria has a positive impact on the economic situation and the completion of a gas pipeline between the two countries in the near future is unlikely”.

It should be noted that Israel previously imported natural gas from Egypt. However, in August, Egypt has stopped exporting gas to Israel because of the events on the Egyptian-Israeli border.

Remind that, according to document, signed by the sides for 20 years, Israel has imported natural gas from Egypt since 2005. Egypt satisfied 45% of Israeli need for gas.
