An intergovernmental agreement has been signed today between the Azerbaijani government and Astrakhan oblast of Russia on trade and economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation in Baku, Russian trade representative in Azerbaijan Yuri Shedrin said.

The previous agreement signed 7 years ago ceased to have effect in 2010.
A delegation of the Astrakhan oblast headed by Jilkin is on two-day visit to Baku.
The delegation also includes representatives of business circles in addition to officials.

During the visit, meetings will be held with representatives of state and commercial agencies of Azerbaijan. The main topics of talks will be enhancing economic relations, including in transport and energy sectors.

At present, about 71 subjects of the Russian Federation are involved in foreign trade activity with Azerbaijan. About 15 Russian regions signed an agreement on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia increased by 71.5 percent per year and amounted to $1.455 billion as of the first half of the year. Russian export increased by 58.9 percent and hit $ 776.1 million. The export from Azerbaijan increased by 88.5 percent and hit $679.2 million.
