Ekol cleans up field areas for SOCAR

CJSC "Ekol muhendislik xidmetleri" started the next phase of the process of rehabilitating and bio-remedicating 23.7 hectares of oil-contaminated lands along Balakhanineft Oil and Gas Department fields of the Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR), CJSC said.

Conducted studies have revealed more than 125,000 cubic meters of oil sludge with different pollution levels and more than 70,000 cubic meters of produced water. Depending on the pollution level, 98,700 cubic meters of oil sludge is predicted to be transported and utilized. Oil sludge was transported for use to an area of 2.5 ha. The sludge is mixed with the soil and dug up.

At present, CJSC began the process of distributing soil and hay in the cleaned area. This is followed by a procedure of dispersing organic and inorganic fertilizers in the area.

The co-founders of Ekol Muhendislik Xidmetleri, which was created on March 1, 2006, to solve environmental problems on the Absheron Peninsula, are SOCAR (51 percent) and Lancer SA Services (49 percent).
