Azerbaijani Internet Forum held a roundtable on topic “Is Azerbaijani internet ready to international mass events?”. The forum’s president Osman Gunduz said that the holding of “Eurovision-2012” song contest in Baku discovered the existence of some problems in the country’s internet sector: “The main directions which attain importance on the eve of this mass event are the situation of national news resources, the information sources on Azerbaijan and internet. During the monitoring it was known that there are serious problems related to internet resources in the country”.

Gunduz said there were few national internet resources in various languages, the website of Baku city is not completed: “The national resources, websites of government organizations don’t contain enough information on Azerbaijan, many our internet resources are not ready to be visited in world scale”.

Expert Rustam Aliyev drew attention to the technical parameters of connection to the internet and publicized the forum’s proposals: “The technical sustainability of national resources must be strengthened, the important resources must be materially supported, the special channel on Azerbaijan and Baku must be established in “youtube.com” resource. The establishment of new resources in tourism and information directions must be also supported”.

He also noted that the installment of free wireless internet network in the public places, normalization of mobile internet infrastructure and elaboration of electronic payment systems were necessary.

Then the event was continued with the experts’ opinions on the topic.
