ISSA secretary general: Social protection system in Azerbaijan is one of most modern worldwide

The Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund has recently achieved impressive success in activity, particularly in management, Secretary General of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) Hans-Horst Konkolewsky said.

"The Azerbaijani Social Protection Fund is one of the most modern organizations in the world in its field," he said.

He said that the fund established a modern and effective database.

"I have visited the head office of the foundation," he said. "What I saw there is the best. The good news is that this situation is observed not only in the capital but also in the regional offices of the fund."

He said that opening the ISSA Coordination Center for Eurasian region in Baku is an indication of a positive attitude of the organization toward the recent development of social protection in Azerbaijan.

However, the sphere of social security should be constantly developed, he said.

"The social protection organizations always have a sphere to develop people, who need welfare, while determining the groups, to expand the list of services, to improve their quality, to settle accidents in the workplace and to improve the accuracy of payments, governance and other issues," Konkolewsky said.

The ISSA Coordination Center for Eurasian region was opened in the building of the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund.

The agreement on opening a center in Azerbaijan was reached in Geneva in March this year.

The international technical workshop on "Social protection of migrant workers in terms of globalization" is held in Baku on June 28-29. The event was organized by the State Social Protection Fund, the International Association for Social Security (ISSA) and the International Association of Pension and Insurance Funds.
