RSI index increases sharply in Azerbaijan

Retail Sales Index (RSI) was 118.3% in May, 2011, up 36% comoared to April. This figure was 94.5% in February, 73.5% in January, 82.3% in April, 73.5% in March, the State Statistics Committee reported.

RSI is calculated as a comparison between the sales value and previous month’s indexes. The Retail Sales Index was AZN 1,348.2 mln in May, AZN 1,139.6 mln in April, AZN 1,384.4 mln in March, AZN 1,156.9 mln in February, AZN 1,224.1 mln in January.

This growth is associated with RSI significant increase in the growth rate of retail sales in the monthly comparison. The fact that the April index was less than 100% indicates that retail sales this month was much lower than last month. In May, the trade sector recorded 18.3% growth.
