Azerbaijani tourists to fly to Dubai on new Boeing

16 June 2011 [17:30] - TODAY.AZ
Flydubai has reaffirmed its position as the world’s fastest growing start up airline with the arrival of its 17th aircraft in just two years. Joining one of the youngest fleets in the industry, the arrival of another new Boeing 737-NG800 is the culmination of an impressive first two years in business and is yet another significant milestone for Dubai’s first low cost airline.

Representing an investment of US$ 80 million, the new addition will support the airline’s expanding network of 36 routes across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the fringes of Europe, and arrives just in time for the start of the peak summer season.

The aircraft arrived at Dubai’s Terminal 2 after making the journey from the manufacturer’s base at Payne Field, Seattle via the Lumexis base in Califormia. The new aircraft is flydubai’s tenth to be fitted with Boeing’s new Sky Interior and the revolutionary Fibre-To-The-Screen in-flight entertainment system by Lumexis, and will provide even more flydubai passengers with an array of entertainment options.

Commenting on the new arrival, flydubai CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said: "With the expansion of our fleet and investment in the best and latest technologies, we are able to support the airline’s sustained growth, whilst ensuring quality and comfortable travel in a cost efficient manner. Over the last two years, flydubai has expanded and grown in popularity and we fully expect this growth to continue."

Since starting operations in June 2009 with daily flights to Beirut (Lebanon), flydubai has established routes to 33 countries including KSA, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Armenia, Ukraine, Russia and Azerbaijan.

The new aircraft is the latest delivery from the order of 50 Boeing 737-NG800 placed by flydubai in 2008, the last of which will be delivered in 2016. In tandem with its expanding fleet, the low-cost carrier has also launched a recruitment drive to seek 600 new pilots to steer its fleet. flydubai is dedicated to making travel more accessible and affordable, taking every step to lower costs and pass on those savings to customers. All fares are one way and inclusive of taxes, and include one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 7kg and a small handbag or laptop bag. Customers then pay for the optional extras they wish to receive, such as checked baggage, which starts at AED50 for 20kgs, or a seat with extra legroom for AED100.
