Azerbaijan increases agricultural production by 5%

Azerbaijan increased the agricultural production by 5.3% in January-May, 2011 as against the outcomes of the same period last year, the State Statistics Committee said.

Spring sowing covered 376.3 thousand ha fields in Azerbaijan until June 1, including 28.3 thousand ha of crops and grain legumes, 31.9 thousand ha of corn, 64 thousand ha of potato, 77.3 thousand ha of vegetables, 41.9 thousand ha of cotton, 31 thousand ha of garden crop, 7.2 thousand ha of sugar beet, 10.2 thousand ha of sunflower, 1 399 ha of tobacco.

196 t of grain, 48.7 thousand t of potato, 65.1 thousand t of vegetables, 4.8 thousand t of fruits and berry, 276 t of tea leaf were cropped until June 1, 2011.

167.5 thousand t of meat, 652.5 thousand t of milk, 441.2million eggs, 12 thousand t of wool have been produced since the beginning of the year. The meat production increased by 5.6% as against the relevant period of last year, milk production increased by 8.4%, wool – 11.8%, but egg production was reduced by 13.3%.
