SOCAR and WB to hold joint conference in Baku

14 June 2011 [09:41] - TODAY.AZ
The World Bank-led Global Gas Flaring Reduction (GGFR) partnership and SOCAR are co-organizing in Baku a Regional Forum on Flaring Reduction and Gas Utilization to be held on June 17th at The Landmark Hotel. As the international community is increasingly debating issues related to climate change, reduction of flaring or burning of natural gas is a relevant and potential contribution to energy efficiency and climate change mitigation by oil producing countries and companies.

The event will be attended by representatives of the Cabinet of Ministries, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, British Petroleum Azerbaijan, and representatives of Government agencies and oil companies from Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Also present will be representatives from ENI, Statoil, Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, Carbon Limits, Government of the Province of Alberta (Canada), and Questor Technology.

Journalists are invited to attend this regional conference on Azerbaijan’s experience and the challenges and opportunities that countries and companies face to reduce gas flaring, which wastes valuable resources and harms the environment not only in Europe and Central Asia region but globally.
