Azerbaijan to start production of tankers in 2013

The new shipyard constructed in Azerbaijan (Baku Shipyard LLC) is considered to launch in 2013, deputy executive director of Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) Rovshan Najafov said.

To him, after the opening of the plant, each year, 4 tankers and 4 other types of ships will be produced at the enterprise: "This will turn Azerbaijan into a leading country in the field of ship-building among the Caspian littoral states".

Najafov noted that the share of SOCAR in the construction of the plant is 65%, AIC - 25%, Singapore KV Enterprises BV (Keppel Group) - 10%.

Remind that, a Memorandum of Understanding on construction and exploitation of the shipyard was signed in November, 2009. On march 19, 2010, groundbreaking ceremony of the plant was held by the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The plant is constructed near the Baku Deepwater Jackets Factory named after Heydar Aliyev. According to preliminary estimates, the construction of the plant will cost 300-350 million dollars. Construction of this plant will assume great importance for Azerbaijan’s marine, for building of new ships and repair of the old ones. It planned to open the 1000-1700 new jobs.
